Losing a Country
The Confederacy won. White supremacy won. This country, founded on hundreds of years of brutality and the ownership of other humans, refuses to understand its origin story.
We’re beyond mediocrity now. We’ve chosen a bottom-of-the-barrel white man, cruel and vacuous in all words and deeds, over a Black woman more talented and qualified than any other candidate in history.
I have no interest right now in hearing hollow phrases about life going on, regardless of who is President. Life will go on, but it will be much harder and more dangerous for some of us. In the days ahead, I’ll have to figure out to live here now, how to support and protect my daughter’s bright spirit. How to protect mine.
Today I grieve.
